JK Bank organizes workshop on enhancement of credit flow to agriculture in J&K
While hailing the role of Jammu & Kashmir Bank in the overall development of the state, Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir stressed for upgrading the credit delivery mechanism to ensure success of the schemes for increasing flow of credit to the agriculture sector.
The Agriculture Minister was speaking after inaugurating first of its kind workshop on enhancement of flow of credit to agriculture in J&K State in presence of Mushtaq Ahmed, CEO, J&K Bank. The workshop was organized by J&K Bank here at SKICC today. A good gathering of bankers, officials of various departments of the state government, representatives of the RBI, NABARD and other related departments and agencies attended the workshop.
Expressing his concern over the growing disparity between the marginal, small and large farmers, the minister advised the bankers to act as real facilitators and guides for marginal farmers. He also laid emphasis on bringing unbanked/under banked areas into the ambit of banking, timely preparation of special agriculture credit plans, focus on local needs and revamping of the co-operative credit delivery system in rural areas.
Hailing the role of J&K Bank in overall development of the state, the minister urged the Bank to use its network in the state to implement various schemes for increasing credit flow to the agriculture sector, especially small and marginal farmers. He further asked the commercial banks to explore new profitable activities and avenues for lending to agriculture sector.
Mr S.K Wattal, RPCD Reserve bank of India, impressed upon the bankers to adhere to the guidelines of RBI, as issued from time to time, for enhancing the lending volumes with special focus on agriculture in J&K State.
Notably, the Business session was presided over by Mr. G M Sahibzada, President, J&K Bank. Nayeem Ullah, Vice-President, J&K Bank, spoke about the various initiatives taken by the bank to enhance the Agriculture productivity in J&K State. He informed the audience that out of total credit of 1800 Crores in J&K State, J&K Bank has alone disbursed Rs1500 Crores to the sector,
Stating that the Bank has a range of highly customized product basket to meet the comprehensive requirements of people associated with varied economic activities including the ones for agriculture and horticulture sector, Nayeemullah said, "Apart from other hasle-free schemes, Bank's Apple advance scheme has been revisited to make it more customer-friendly". "
Further, the bank has tied up with various renowned companies for financing the agriculture equipment and tools to revitalize the agriculture sector, he added.
Director Agriculture, Kashmir, while speaking on the climatic diversity of the state, gave an oweview of the various initiatives and incentives offered by the government for encouraging productivity to enhance growth of agriculture in J&K State.
