Reputed industrialist and managing director of one of the lead paint manufacturers of repute GARWARE PAINTS, Chandrakant Balachandra Garware, breathed his last in Mumbai today. He was father of Nihal Garware, who is one of the directors on board of the J&K Bank.
Chandrakant Balachandra Garware, was basically a plastic technologist who assisted his father in the establishment of the various plastic manufacturing processes. He has several patents registered in his name. He was the youngest Chairman of the Plastic Manufacturer's Association and was appointed by the government of India to chair the National Safety Council of India for over 18 years.
His family has made rich contributions to the society through various philanthropic activities. Notably, Dr. Balachandra (Abbasaheb) D. Garware, the grandfather of Nihal Garware, was a leading Industrialist and known as father of the plastic Industry in India. He had founded GARWARE POLYESTERS, GARWARE NYLONS, GARWARE WALLROPES, GARWARE SHIPPING, GARWARE SYNTHETICS, GARWARE MARINES and GARWARE FINANCE.
Besides, the Dr. Garware was a distinguished philanthropist family and established the GARWARE FOUNDATION to "give back to society some of what he was privileged to earn." The grandfather of Nihal Garware donated money to the Maharashtra Education Society for the GARWARE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS and the GARWARE COLLEGE FOR ARTS, SCIENCE & COMMERCE in Pune; to the University of Pune for its Post Gradate Department for Organic Chemistry; to the fellowship of the Physically Handicapped to augment their income to assist training of disabled persons etc.
