6th AGM of ICSI Srinagar Chapter held
The 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Srinagar Chapter was held here at the J&K Bank's Corporate Headquarters. The meeting besides discussing important issues was conducted to elect the Management Committee of the chapter for the year 2012.
The meeting was presided over by the Chairman, Srinagar Chapter of ICSI, Mr. Parvez Ahmad, (Executive President, J&K Bank Ltd.) who welcomed the members, Students and Professionals to the 6th AGM of the Chapter. Tracing the growth of the profession of Company Secretaries in the State, Chairman informed the members that the Chapter of the ICSI was established in the Valley so as to provide necessary direction and guidance to the students intending to pursue the Course of Company Secretaryship.
He said, "Beginning with a small group 10 Students and Grant of Rs. 10,000 from NIRC of ICSI in October 2005, the Chapter has come a long way. So far, above 500 students registered through the Chapter, more than 40 students have qualified foundation and Executive Program of the Institute and around 10 students are at the final stages of qualifying Final Examination."
Coaching administration of the Chapter has been arranging quality coaching to the students' pursuing foundation and Intermediate Course of the Institute, which is evident from the fact that over 40 students have already qualified Foundation/Executive programs of the Institute, besides providing part time employments to 5 persons, he added. Members of the Chapter unanimously elected the Management Committee for the year 2012 and recommended the names of Mr. Parvez Ahmad, Executive President, J&K Bank Ltd for the position of Chairman and Mr. Shaukat Hussain Rafiqi, Advocate for the position of Vice Chairman to the President, ICSI.
In order to further improve the visibility of the profession in the State, the Members of the Management Committee decided to conduct series of meetings during the year 2012, with various trade associations and Govt. bodies to appraise them about the role played by a Company Secretary in the efficient conduct of affairs of business particularly in small and medium sized industries which cannot afford to appoint a full time Company Secretary.
The Members also desired that coaching administration of the Chapter should be further improved to attract best talent to the profession by conducting career awareness programs/career counseling programs in Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges.
The members of the Chapter thanked the Bank for the moral and professional support to the Chapter since its commencement.
Focusing further on various issues related to the profession in the State, the Management Committee constituted sub committees (Professional Development Committee, Committee of Practicing Company Secretaries and Coaching Administration Committee) to take up the matter with the concerned quarters. The Meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the chair.
